Empowering Lives Through Occupational Therapy in Zimbabwe!

Welcome to the Zimbabwe Association of Occupational Therapists (ZAOT)! We are a professional body committed to promoting the practice of occupational therapy in Zimbabwe. Our mission is to support occupational therapists in their professional development, advocate for the profession, and enhance the quality of life for individuals through meaningful engagement in occupations.

ZAOT aims to promote the practice and recognition of occupational therapy and support professional development and continuing education for occupational therapists. ZAOT advocates for policies that improve accessibility to occupational therapy services by enhancing public awareness of the importance of occupational therapy in health and rehabilitation.

World Health Organization Rehabilitation 2030: A call for action

The Zimbabwe Association of Occupational Therapy welcomes the landmark resolution by the World Health Organisation on strengthening rehabilitation in health systems. This resolution is a significant step towards improving the quality of rehabilitation services available to people worldwide, including in Zimbabwe.

This resolution is particularly important for the rehabilitation sector in Zimbabwe as it recognizes the value and importance of rehabilitation services in improving health outcomes. The resolution highlights the need for greater investment in rehabilitation services and the integration of rehabilitation into all levels of health systems.

One important item from the resolution is the call for "political commitment and leadership to prioritize and invest in rehabilitation services as a public health strategy" (World Health Organization, 2021). This recognizes that rehabilitation services are an essential part of the healthcare system and should be a priority for governments and healthcare providers.

The resolution recognises the need for "patient empowerment and the involvement of people with disabilities and their organizations" in the development and delivery of rehabilitation services. This emphasizes the importance of working closely with patients and their communities to ensure that rehabilitation services are tailored to their specific needs and preferences.

Overall, the Zimbabwe Association of Occupational Therapy is excited about the potential impact of this resolution on the rehabilitation sector in Zimbabwe and looks forward to working with the government of Zimbabwe and stakeholders to ensure that rehabilitation services are integrated and accessible to all who need them.
